General Information and ISI Grade Related to Adhesive

I appreciate that you are eager to know about adhesives. Nowadays, the use of adhesives is increasing widely, especially in home and office decoration, but what is an adhesive?  Adhesives are of many types and used in many applications, what kind of adhesive is used in constructions, furniture’s, fabric material?  Which grade is used? Having some information about it, the increasing use of large tiles and marble makes the house more beautiful indoors and outdoors, that’s why its use is increasing, also applying cement is not suitable for large sizes.  Along with the beauty and attractiveness of the house, strength is also necessary.  For Example, now the old method of laying tiles needs to be replaced by something new because earlier tiles were small and thin now larger tiles are more thick and hence the need for polymer cement instead of cement Flooring is more used in homes and offices  Since people are constantly walking, moving furniture on the flooring, keeping small items and many other daily life processes, the flooring under the house needs to be very strong and for this the grades of adhesive are classified in different ways as per ISI standards.

They are classified in three main ways including D, R, C Grades, these three grades are differentiated based on their requirement.

  1. Dispersive Adhesive

If we study D grade in detail, this type of adhesive is made by dispersing the polymer. Making a substance by dispersing it means in English it is used dispersive word from which it is called D type adhesive.

This special polymer is mixed and made by dispersion process in liquid form and is used in bonding of wood, paper and any type of fabric material. Mainly these adhesives are divided into two parts D1 for Dispersive Normal Adhesive and D2 for Dispersive Impressed Adhesive.  However, they are also classified according to many uses, such as where they are used, how much tension there is, how much pressure there is between the two ends, whether it is applied in the presence of sunlight or in the shade.  It is thus also manufactured in different ways so that it can be given the right strength and precisely useful in the application in which it is intended to be used.

2. Reaction Resin Adhesive

Reaction Resin This is a new class of adhesive this type is also used in tiles, This types of adhesive used between two tiles as a jointer this adhesive is not only used for tiles but also used in plastics, metal, PVC, acrylic and many other composite.  The special thing about this type of adhesive is that it is made by the reaction of two or more chemicals. Two or more different chemicals are mixed at the time of use.  It can be mixed and used only when needed. Basically there are also two main types R1 & R2.  R1 is the basic reactive or standard adhesive and R2 is a newly modified adhesive with enhanced characteristics.

This improved adhesive is a more capable, water resistant, smoother finished, stronger adhesive with greater flexibility.  Which gives very good results, it is used in many other applications

3. Cementations Tile Adhesive

Cemented means C type adhesive, cemented is called cementation in English language and this type of adhesive has been given C grade from its first letter.  Cement, sand and other additives are used to make such a sticky material. The material made in this way is also known as tile adhesive. Its main two types are C1 is cementations normal adhesive and C2 is cementation improved adhesive. Used for a bonding material such as tiles and stone.

Five years ago, when small tiles were installed inside the walls and flooring, cement was the best adhesive for installing them, but now larger tiles and marble are being used more and more.  Using cement according to its strength and thickness is like compromising with strength because its bond strength is not good, it is causing problems of falling after some time, so the only solution is to use cement polymer tiles adhesive.  Many chemicals are mixed in proper proportions which react with water to provide good strength to tiles and marbles. Grey cement base tile adhesive is used for indoor facing tiles and White cement best tiles adhesive is used for outdoor facing tiles.
